CUNA Mutual Group has a variety of white papers that delve into issues important to credit unions. Written by CUNA Mutual staff who are experts in their fields, or, in some cases, by outside experts, the white papers provide the kind of in-depth content leaders need to make the best decisions for their credit unions. Some white papers are free; there is a charge for others.

White Papers
Developing Members from Indirect Borrowers:  Lessons Learned (2212 KB/16 pages) This White Paper provides insights into how 13 pilot credit unions went about building multi-product relationships with members through a dedicated outbound call center staffed with trained, full-time call center representatives.  The White paper covers testing methodology and key findings from this pilot that ran from the end of 2007 to the beginning of 2008. 

Debt Cancellation Products White Paper(52 KB/ 8 pages) 2003 The Federal Credit Union Incidental Powers Activities regulation, 12 CFR 721, clarified and expanded the incidental powers for Federally Chartered Credit Unions. In particular, it expanded credit union powers to offer debt cancellation products.

The commentary to the Incidental Powers Regulation provides general insight into the nature of this activity but does not address the financial implications or the benefit to your membership of engaging in this activity.

Lending Resources White Papers deal with a variety of lending topics.

The Loss Prevention Library contains white papers that describe how to manage credit unions' unique risks. If authorized, CUNA Mutual Fidelity policyholders may enter this password protected Library from the Protection Resource Center.

Online Marketing:  Effectiveness and Impact on the Credit Union Industry  (2039 KB/ 37pages) 2005  The study's findings are based on a national survey of credit unions of all sizes and a focus group of marketing executives who provided insights and validated the survey findings.  The study was conducted by a consortium of credit union industry leaders and researchers at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.  

The Survey Data Appendix  (1987 KB/ 25 pages) contains the detailed answers to every question included in the survey.
